| Salvador - Parks - Abaeté Park |
It’s one of Salvador’s postcards, known by its laundress and its white sand dunes.
Accumulated rainwater and the natural damming of regional rivers form the Abaeté’s Lake. It has dark colored water due to the presence of
microorganisms and minerals.
Curiously the lagoon has different temperatures according to the place where the
visitor is, because there are currents that don’t get mixed. The dunes, formed by sand brought by the wind from Itapoá beach, are surrounded by
vegetation. There are many kinds of orchids, some of them rare, and trees like cashew tree and guava fruit tree. It became an area of
Environmental Protection in 1987.
Abaeté’s Lake Park offers to the visitor cycle ways, snack bars and track fields,
attractions that are results of the revitalization plan of the park. Integrating the same project there’s the Casa da Música (House of Music),
ideal space to those interested in arts and Bahia’s cultural memory. The public has at disposal several videos, photos and musical instruments.
There’s also the Casa das Lavadeiras (House of Laundress), that, besides protecting
the work of the laundress, runs a project to water preservation.
