Carlos Costa Pinto Museum

Designed in the beginning to house the Carlos Costa Pinto family which was part of the list of important and traditional families of Bahia, the colonial style house was never lived in. It ended up changed into an institution.

The museum is linked to the state government even though it is a private foundation.

It was inaugurated in November of 1969 and some time later, during the term of Antônio Carlos Magalhães, it was reformed to permit the installation of a library and an auditorium.

He died in 1946 at the age of 60, without being able to make his largest dream come true which was exactly this: the keeps his collection in exhibition. The collection was donated by his wife, Margarida de Carvalho Costa Pinto, which made it possible for the residents of the city a d its visitors to have contact with the history of the art of Bahia.

The spaces house the Balangandan Café as well, on atmosphere the visitors can take a break, watered with juices, pies and other delicacies.
