| Salvador - Churches - São Francisco's Third Order Church |
The São Francisco’s Third Order’s Church is next to another church that pays homage
to the saint, but has a single characteristic, the magnificent facade, made with carved stone. It’s the only brazilian church with such details
on its front, remitting to the spanish baroque style.
The church was constructed in 1702, but these adornments remained covered by cement
for decades and were revealed only in the beginning of the 20th century, when electricity was installed in the temple. The ceiling paintings are
in shape of a medallion and were made in 1831, by Franco Velasco.
Other art works that may be seen in the church are the especially painted panels to
the church’s side altars. Besides them, there are other eight non-identified panels, dated from the beginning of 19th century.
