| Salvador - Beaches - Farol da Barra Beach |
The Praia do Farol is also called Praia da Barra. It received the name in honor of
the Farol da Barra, located in the Forte de Santo Antonio, a Fortress that was built in the 16th century to protect the northern part of the
Baía de todos os Santos. The sea is darker and colder than the ones traditional found in Salvador because it receives water from the Rio
Cricaré.
There are many sunken ships around the light house which makes the beach ideal for
divers who like to explore shipwrecks. The sea is rough and is frequented by surfers. During low tide, the reefs form natural pools. The larder
has hotels, bars and restaurants. One of the most crowed circuits of the Baiano Carnaval has the Barra has a starting point and goes on to
Ondina. |
