Festa de Santa Luzia (Saint
Luzia Party)
The eyes’ patron saint’s
honoring take place at Largo do Pilar, in Cidade Baixa. Last century,
festivities happened in Solar do Unhão, where besides a little chapel with
the saint’s image, there is a fountain where followers washed their eyes
to protect their vision or cure their illnesses. The program also contains
a novena, a mass at Igreja de Santa Luzia, a procession and public
celebration, with millions of followers going to Pilar to wash their eyes. |
