Beaches
Praia dos Nativos
This beach of fine golden sand with
green colored water is art by the Trancoso River, taken over by mango trees that
run along the beach. In spite of its name, it is not restricted to the natives,
very much to the contrary, is one of the most visited by the tourists because it
is near the town. In this place you can rent hourses for a ride.
Praia dos Coqueiros
Due to the reefs, the waves are small
looking like a pool. There are several stands spread around the border of the
beach that has a vast area of sand and it is sorrounded by coconut trees. It is
located to the south after the Praia dos Nativos.
Praia do Rio da Barra
This beach of fine golden sand with
endless coconut trees on the border is divided in the middle by the Rio da Barra,
perfect for swimming in sweet water. The lagoons are another attraction. In the
northern part you will find the summer houses. It is an hour walk (4km) from the
city in the direction of Arraial d'Ajuda.
Praia da Pedra Grande (A nudism
beach)
To the south of the Praia dos
Coqueiros, 30 minutes from the city, this beach is usually used for the practice
of nudism. Open sea surrounded by coral, you can still maintains a certain air
of wilderness, it doesn't have any type of infra-structure of bars or
restaurants and there is only one or two summer houses.
Praia da Ponta de Itaporoca
Beaches of reefs that form natural
pools during low tide. Since it is not visited very frequently some people use
the place for nudism. It is located to the south of the Praia do Nudismo.
Praia de Itaquena (Barra Velha)
A beach with stone in the sand and a
small tip of land. The mouth of several streams, low demography density and
large coconut trees. During the low tide the reefs form small natural pools. It
is an hour and a half walk after the Ponta de Itaporoca.
Praia da Setiquara
An ample beach with clear water and
light colored sand.
Praia do Rio dos Frades or Praia de
Jacumã
Special mention to the great line of
coconut trees that are spread all along the extension of the beach. It is also
known as the estuary of the Barra do Rio dos Frades where you have the mouth of
this river which is the principal one of a great number of small strams that
form an integrated ecosystem which during the full periods when the water goes
up several meters, flooding the valley and occupying a vast extension like in
the marsh of Mato Grosso. Its name came from the drowning of a Franciscan mark
in 1515. It is a 3 hour walk by the beachs, after the Praia de Itaquena.
