Urubici - Hill - Morro Pelado

Morro Pelado

Morro Pelado

The absence of vegetation is what originated the name “Pelado” for this hill located in the surroundings of Urubici. According to a legend of the region, 10 families lived on a cave in the hill, descendant of the bororó indians.

The tribe lived practically isolated, feeding on plants and other small animals. On night of full moon, they realized a ritual around a fire, where they invoked spirits. One day, a rebel spirit turned against the families, provoking a huge fire that caused the deforestation on the entire hill, making it "naked" (“pelado”).
