 Chapada dos Veadeiros - Hints

How long to stay

In eight days it is possible to get to know very well all of the Chapada dos Veadeiros , but few tourists have the opportunity to spend so much time in the region. The guides recommend at least five days, because most of the first and last days are taken up going back and forth from the airport and supporting cities. The majority of the excursions take one day. For those who just want to know the Parque Nacional da Chapada dos Veadeiros, four days are enough because there are only two attractions open to the public and are visited in two days.

Climate

Since it is located 1.200 meter above sea level, the climate is mild even in the summer. The medium annual temperature is 24 º. Between May and July it is very cold in the region, however it is the best time for the tourists who are looking for adventure since during the rainy season, between October and March, some of the excursion are cancelled for safety reasons. The high season is July, January and February, when it rains less. May and November are the months that have less business.

What you should take

It is necessary to take medicine because there are no drugstores in Alto Paraiso or in Vila São Jorge. It is also advisable to take the prescription of the medicine and specification on the treatment in case of same emergency.

During the excursions, the tourists have quick snacks. All the garbage should be collected and put into plastic bags.

The magnificent landscapes are excellent scenery for photographic. The tourist should not forget to take a camera and boards of film because they will not be found in the city during the high season.

Those who are going to visit the Chapada dos Veadeiros, are going to be in contact with the nature, and nothing is more natural then suffering with the mosquitos. To avoid this problem, it is necessary to take repellents. A sunsaeen is also indicated.

When preparing the suitcases it is best to take light clothes in light color without forgetting a comfortable pair of sneakers for walking. Caps are good for protecting the face from the sun and swimming suits are also indispensable.

What you shouldn’t take

Credit cards are not very useful in the city of Alto Paraiso or in the Vila São Jorge because very few places accept them. There are only two banks in the region, one is in Alto Paraiso and the other one is in the city of Cavalcante so the ideal is to take a good amount in cash.

Pets are not permitted into the Park. It is good to decide if its worth-while taking the pet or traveling alone.

Precautions

The central west region of Brazil is a area of high risk in the transmission of yellow fever, therefore it is necessary to be vaccinated against this disease at least ten days before. The chose doesn’t present contraindications and can be taken by any person. The vaccination against yellow fever is free and is available in the public system of health and in the posts of the Agencia Nacional de Vigilância Sanitária in any one of the airports.

Some typical dishes can be dangerous when the tourist is not used to the strong seasoning of the region. It is also good to be careful with a fruit called “Pequi” and is party of various dishes. Then seed of the fruit is full of thorns and it is necessary to know the right way of eating it.

No one can enter the Parque Nacional da Chapada dos Veadeiros without a guide. After the payment of the entrance fee, the tourist should keep the receipt where it will be easy to get when requested.

Smokers should double the attention: cigarette buts should not be thrown in just any place, care must be taken to avoid starting a fire.

Since the majority of the excursions are done on foot, the tourist must know the state of health besides evaluating which excursions the children can take.
